Chris Burch is a renowned real estate, fashion, and technology investor. He is associated with some of the most reputed brands in the world including Tory Burch and C. Wonder. After investing in all these industries, the entrepreneur decided to diversify into the hospitality sector.

In collaboration with James McBride, Burch bought a beach hostel located on the Sumba Island of Indonesia in 2012. After a two-year renovation exercise that cost $30 million, the duo reopened the hotel in 2015. The hotel was named as Nihiwatu and was opened as a five-star resort. Just a year after its opening, Nihiwatu was honored as the best hotel in the world by Travel and Leisure in 2016.

In a statement during an interview with Business Jet Traveler in 2015, Chris revealed that he built the hotel for his children. Burch also stated that he hopes to preserve the facility and give back to the community. According to Burch, having a tranquil environment such as that of Nihiwatu can make do things that cannot be done in other places. Nihiwatu presents a beautiful environment that is unique, and it is equipped with a spa under a waterfall. Contrary to many occasions where things turn into lesser than expected, Nihiwatu became something more than Burch expected. More insight from Burch on
